In addition to the larger screen smartphones released by the Cupertino tech giant, another highlighted product belonging to Apple is the company’s latest iMac AIO (all in one PC); a 27 inch computer with a resolution that surpasses the pixel amount of the 4K resolution; the 5K. While the product might share the aesthetics of the previous generation iMac, the 27 inch powerhouse features hardware specifications that will contribute significantly to the smooth functionality of such a densely pixilated product.

Hardware specifications

Apple’s new iMac features a 27 inch screen size that possesses the 5K resolution. When concerning ourselves with the amount of pixels each resolution boasts, the 4K measures in at 3,840 by 2,160 pixels while the resolution that will imminently supersede it; the 5K resolution measures in at 5,120 by 2,880. That is equal to 14.7 million pixels, or 218 per inch. Compared to a 1080p HDTV, Apple’s iMac possesses seven times as many pixels and three times the amount of pixels that Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has.Imac 5K Retina Hardware

While the resolution is crispier than ever, the hardware assimilated to the product will have to be top notch in order to provide a fluid experience to the user. Apple would most likely figured out the limitation to this, and figured out a solution; which is exactly why the 27 inch iMac has been fitted with performance induced components that will result in the smooth workings of the operating system, regardless of how taxing the applications may be. The base model of the iMac runs an Intel Core i5 3rd generation processor that has a default clock speed of 3.5 GHz. Intel’s Turbo Boost technology will allow the chip to run on 3.9 GHz for the first two cores depending on how taxing the work being is done.

As for the memory side of things, the 27 inch AIO with 5K Retina Display comes with 8 GB DDR3 RAM (divided in to sticks of two 4 GB modules) with a 1600 MHz frequency. There are 4 SO-DIMM slots available, making two more slots vacant for upgradability, though once again, it will depend entirely on the amount of work the user is engaged in. For storage purposes, a 1 TB Fusion Drive has been added. Thanks to Apple’s Fusion Drive technology, the Fusion Drive present in the iMac combines a high capacity hard drive with high performance flash storage to deliver the best possible storage configuration to the user.

Is Apple’s iMac with 5K Retina an overkill?

Most monitors are not fitted with the 4K resolution and here you have Apple, pushing beyond the boundaries of 4K with its 5K Retina iMac. Users who possess an affinity for possessing hardware that will deliver visual ‘eye candy’ as well as the money to pay for it (the base for the iMac starts at an expensive $2,499 and ends up at a ridiculous $4,499 at just the hardware specifications), can purchase it and begin their bragging rights of possessing the world’s first product that radiates the 5K resolution.
